Winning in Fighting - the 4S: Skill, Strength, Speed and Stamina

I was into martial arts since 1990. First into Taekwondo, then Aikido and then Jeetkunedo. And very briefly, I tried out Muay Thai Kickboxing. I have been joining competitions in Taekwondo since 1994 to 1996 and stopped and just did a short competition again in 2004. Although I practice various martial arts and I love watching mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions like the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Price Fighting Championship, I will never join competitions like those, at least not now, and maybe not in the future as age is already coming up with me. Even if I like watching these, I am not joining because I believe the formula to win is the 4S: Skill, Strength, Speed and Stamina. If you are weak in one of them, you can lose. And my major weakness is stamina. My cardiovascular endurance is way low, I easily get tired. And considering that I have an elevated heart rate due to hyperthyroidism, a type of toxic goiter that hyperactivates the thyroid gland making the heart work more in pumping more blood thinking that the thyroid gland needs more blood flow in there.

Why you need the 4S:

  • Skill: If you do not know how to fight, you lose. Deliver a punch effectively, deliver a kick effectively, and grapple effectively. And know how to defend in these attacks as well are all needed. A win could sometimes be a win just because the fighter was more knowledgeable of what to do in a fight.
  • Strength: Let’s say someone is less skillful than you, but is very very powerful. That even if you see a kick coming, and is aware of the attack and you are able to block it, but is so powerful that the pain will go through the block. Or a fighter gives you a barrage of punches and you cover up your face, but they somehow still give a knockout feeling. Someone more powerful can will with the sheer power.
  • Speed: Something that made Bruce Lee popular was mainly his speed. As you just begin to punch, he sees it and someone beats you at the punch and punches you first. And if someone with excellent speed can follow up with a flurry or attacks where opponents get overwhelmed and barely have the time to think loses just because they are slower.
  • Stamina: Assuming both fighters have all skill, strength and speed, and is equally match where one cannot take much advantage on the other and the fight goes the distance. It will then boil down to stamina. If you don’t have the endurance to last long, and your opponent is can last for more hours than you. Then it’s dooms day for you as you cannot even move well when you are tired. So you cannot defend yourself well, nor can you attack effectively. This is my biggest weakness which I was aware of during my Taekwondo days so I joined an aerobics class that does aerobics three times a week to develop my stamina.

Today MMA fighters are so well rounded that you need to practice everything before entering competitions like those. This video below is not an MMA competition, but in this video you will see one fighter that is more skilled, has the speed, has lesser strength but has has stronger stamina and he wins because he takes advantage of his skill, speed and stamina. While the loser who was all about power, loses and gives up.

Choosing the right bank

For me, banks are not the best financial tools to save the most amount of money in the shortest period of time. For me it is still business and investments that make money and investments are better than savings accounts. Although you add in more risk, the more calculated you risk is, the less riskier it gets. but definitely you still need a bank. Banks are all different so might as well get the most advantageous bank. But learning that alone sometimes takes some time. But there are sites dedicated to this that excludes all the business talk and financial terms in it. Compare online banking, find a savings account or checking account and earn more interest today with SavingsAccounts.com. Here there is not much confusing stuff to read. Just plain interest rate comparison, list of services offered by the bank and the website of the bank so you can start opening an account right away. And after seeing their site, I am happy to know that I bank the second highest paying interest bank list. Although I did not choose the highest paying one, my bank has a lot of promos and other online conveniences that I like. Have you chosen your bank well enough?

Piracy destroying the pirates

Piracy is the enemy of many people mainly software companies and people from the music industry and movie industry. They earn money from selling their music, selling the movies, selling their software on digital storage media, CDs, DVDs, or sometimes online downloadable goods. And it is very well known in many countries, that some people even manufacture pirated CDs and DVDs and sell them at a very cheap price, way lower than the current market value. Even if they may be lower in quality, to the consumer, nothing beats a real cheap price. And there are companies that have been profitable in this illegal business that has greatly affected the movie industry, music industry and software industry.

But with the current trend of P2P softwares coming out, from Kazaa, Morpheus, Limewire, Ares, BitTorrent and all these other P2P softwares which most were inspired by the old Napster, one of the first music file sharing software. With these softwares which have always been the enemies of the RIAA and MPAA, are not only ruining the music industry, movie industry and software industry, but they are also actually affecting the CD and DVD piracy duplicators. Since why do you need to pay if you can get them for free? Oh well, I guess P2P will not stop and if I were in these industries, I guess I would evolve into try and make new revenue streams from this system. I really do not know how yet, but there should be a way.

When I get a house…

I live in San Diego, they say real estate is way expensive here and it’s not going down. But I believe it is still going to go down sometime 2008 or 2009 based on my conversations with people that are in good touch with the real estate industry. But can I afford it? My wife is far away, but will be with me soon and our combined income will make it easier to buy property and move out of our apartment.

And this time it is the issue with fixing up the house, dressing it up and putting everything inside. I guess this is one thing I enjoy doing with my wife. We don’t hire much help in fixing things up and we both share the joy of shopping for furniture,do painting and repairs ourselves. I personally go for the modern look. But my wife says she likes the wood beds of Great Priced Furniture. And my wife is very particular with the look and feel the house will make and I trust her decision on that. I like her choice of furniture stores as well since our daughters would also have a good selection of choices with the children furniture.

Now before we all go to dreamland, we have to plan out that mortgage stuff first and where will we actually buy. But thinking about it whenever seeing the furniture, makes her even excited to buy a house already.

What will I do to win GlobalWarming Awareness2007?

Ok, this blog is all about various things. But where did this all start off with? Isulong SEOph. How well did this site do? Hmm not so good. My other site did better. Vorgemilten, I won that fake contest. Too bad it was a fake. Ituloy AngSulong, just number 10 on Google on the final day. So now GlobalWarming Awareness2007 comes. So what am I going to do?

First is, I cannot use this website. *LOL* Domains should be a new domain not registered on the day before the contest.  And mostly every keyword rich domain was already taken. I don’t know what’s else left to use. But I still got 1 domain and let’s see how that goes.

Now I just installed wordpress basically for the ease of use. I started making the theme for the site as well and will concentrate on onpage stuff site,  and domain canonicalization issues and avoiding duplicate content issues and lets see how it goes. I will devote this week to onpage optimization. I can’t do this full time since I have a full time job too as well as a full time sideline job. But fortunately all jobs are still all SEO related. Next week after seeing the effects of onpage optimization, I will probably work on developing content, and then link building then.

Fixing the redirect madness

Since the Ituloy AngSulong SEO Contest is over, and the Ituloy AngSulong Winners were declared already. I need to clean up my blogs. As in a real big backend clean up. So many sites I modified I cannot even remember what I have been doing to every site. All these bot and ip detections and redirects left and right. I got to take them out right now before big brother G. finds out and kicks me in the butt. So it’s clean up time one site at a time, one by one. SEO contest are damn tiring.

Face-off Again

This website is undergoing another face-off, you know in the movie where John Travolta and Nicolas Cage switch faces. This website used to be an Isulong SEOph website, then it became a Ituloy AngSulong website, and now it is a GlobalWarming Awareness2007 website. This can be tiring, although this is not going to be the main entry this will be one of the supporters and you never know, this site may actually get increased rankings too. Right now that I just changed the Ituloy Angsulong to GlobalWarming Awareness2007, for sure people on Technorati are already checking out the site and checking who is working on anything. Don’t worry, this site is not a threat. And I am just starting now. Barely making any moves.

Remembered but not greeted

I run a very small company and I appreciate the work employees and outsource partners do for me and I reward them and treat them as special people. Even to the point of remembering simple stuff like birthdays. My only and longest working loyal employee’s birthday is on Valentine’s day and that is pretty much not hard to forget. And I always made it a point to give her something on her birthday. But sometime last year I believe, she has moved in the religion of Jehovah’s Witness. And they do not believe in birthdays and other celebrations. Even to the point they will not accept gifts since for then this is not right and is not acceptable. And I was aware of their belief and I respect that belief. So as her birthday passed by, I just let it pass as if I forgot about it.

Technical Burn Out

This is just actually only my own term for what is happening. What is actually burning out is me, due to so many technical problems with a super long to-do list. I can barely finish due to physical exhaustion. I have a web hosting, design and development business I can barely manage with the lack of the proper tool and with the presence of continuous growth. With this continuous growth I decided to make my 2007 a passing selling year and just concentrate on my systems.

  • My Billing System - I am buying AccountLabPlus, It can easily integrate with my whole hosting business, domain business, has a good trouble ticket system and will solve many of the billing headaches I have.
  • My Project Management System - I will working a lot with ActiveCollab, since this is powerful and fully opensource and will get my whole team on the learning curve of using this.
  • My Customer Support System - Although AccountLabPlus has a good trouble ticket system included with it, I will signup with a good VOIP company which I am undecided yet who I am going to sign up with and activate a 1-800 number and employ a home-based techsupport chick in the Philippines. Don’t know who yet also. And she will work on working hours of Pacific Standard Time.

Since I also work full time and I also do business full time after work, this is a real burnout. But what the heck, I need to face it. I’m just really burned out and working like a robot right now. Wish me luck with my managing efforts.

Lighting Up Las Vegas

As I was driving home, I passed by Paseo Cardiel and I found it nice to see a lot of homes lighting up this Christmas Season. And it seems to be something common on that street as neighbors are all lighting up their houses. All for the spirit of Christmas and they do no mind spending a bit more on electricity. And if you are on a tight budget and wants to keep a good watch on your electrical usage and cannot afford the extra bills to light up your house with Christmas lights, can you imagine all the electricity consumed by Las Vegas? How much electricity are they spending? I myself have no exact value for that, but with all the electricity they spend, it actually generates even more money for the city’s main income, from the tourism and convention industry. It generates a lot that businesses do not have city or state income tax since the state pays for this from these industries. It has attracted many business to set up Las Vegas companies and even people has seriously looked into Las Vegas real estate that has boomed not so long ago with an increase of population of 83% from April 1990 to April 2000.

Las Vegas at Night

This once was vast land with nothing on it and today it is one big booming cities with lights that go on and on every night. Most of America’s power supply is generated by power plants based on oil, using fossil fuels unless the area is geographical ideal for alternative sources of power. And Las Vegas just seems to be in a very ideal area.

Just by the border of Nevada and Arizona, is where the Colorado river passes and this used to overflow after the winter season as snow melts from the rocky mountains and causes problems to farming communities below. But this problem was solved into an opportunity to make used of hydro-electrical power and the Hoover dam was constructed . Construction started in 1931 and finished in 1936 and just looking at the vast large size of the dam can put you in awe. But this is also a technology marvel as well as an economy booster. When the Nevada legislature has legalized gambling in 1931, in it’s efforts to lift the state from the Great Depression, this amazing technological construction has aided the area economically. Currently the Hoover Dam powers Arizona, Nevada, and many areas of southern California, 23.4% of Hoover Dam’s electricity generated is consumed by Nevada.

The Colorado River has a portion that was like a funnel where both sites where solid rock mountains and this small area seemed to be perfect for building a dam. And when the dam sa created, it created also the largest man-made lake because of the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead.

In the image above is a very far image where this big river, Colorado just looks like a thin line, and with the Hoover Dam that you can not even see well in the photo above has controlled the flow of the river making the large lake. Below is a closer satellite photograph of Lake Mead but the dam still barely visible.

You can see that large body of water all going through that small funnel like a geographical masterpiece for a hydro-electric plant.

Here is the Hoover Dam. You can see the 4 intake towers where water flows in. Then they go through very large tubes running inside the sides of the mountain rock and is distributed flowing downward to the power turbines below. Although the flow still has to be controlled, depending on weather conditions, there are diversion tunnels that can adjust the flow. Below is the plan of the Hoover Dam when it was constructed.

Hoover Dam

A very big dam, can generate large amounts of electrical power. And this power plant generates power supplied to Arizona, Nevada and several parts of Southern California and imagine the power Las Vegas Nevada needs. Excellent Engineering.
